Bulk Import COPE
Importing COPE values in bulk from Excel makes it easy to update COPE data across all your sites at once. Instead of manually entering values site by site, you can prepare an Excel sheet and import thousands of rows in minutes. Currently, the COPE bulk importer supports area (in square meters). Support for all COPE values — Construction, Occupancy, Protection, and Exposure — is coming soon.
Before getting started Before getting started
Before downloading the Excel template, here are a few important things to know about bulk importing COPE values:
- You can only import area values in square meters (m²) .
- You can only import to active sites with insurance enabled. The Excel template includes a reference sheet with all your eligible sites.
- Blank cells are ignored, so you cannot use bulk import to "unset" area values.
- Area values can only be imported to one period at a time, so make sure you are on the correct period before starting.
- You must have update access to COPE values on the insurance board.
Download the template Download the template
To download the template for bulk import, navigate to "Insurance" > "COPE" after logging in to 21RISK. Make sure you are on the correct period.
Now, open the command palette by clicking the "Search" button in the left side of the screen, or press "Ctrl/Cmd + K". Search for "bulk import COPE" and click on the result.
This takes you to the COPE import page with two cards: one for downloading the Excel template, and another for uploading. Click "Download template" to get started.
The downloaded Excel template contains 3 sheets:
- Instructions — general instructions for the import
- data-to-import — the sheet where you enter your area data
- Sites — a reference list of all your active insurance sites
Fill out the template Fill out the template
Open the template and fill in the area values in the "data-to-import" sheet. The columns are:
| Column | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| siteId | Yes | The unique site ID (pre-filled in the template) |
| siteName | No | The site name (for reference only — ignored during import) |
| area | No | The total floor area in square meters (m²) |
One row per site. You can leave the area cell blank if you don't want to update a particular site.
Tip: You don't have to use the 21RISK template. If you already have an Excel file with area data, just make sure row 1 contains the correct column headers — siteId (required) and area . If row 2 in your existing sheet contains old headers or descriptions, enable "Skip second row" when uploading.
Upload and review the what-if analysis Upload and review the what-if analysis
With your data ready, go back to the import page in 21RISK. Upload the spreadsheet and click "Upload template".
This takes you to a what-if analysis page. The table shows one row per site, displaying the new area value that would be set after the import.
Review the what-if table carefully. If something looks off, go back, adjust your Excel file, and re-upload.
Confirm and import Confirm and import
Once you're satisfied with the what-if analysis, click the "Import now" button at the bottom of the page to proceed.
The import runs in a single transaction — it will either succeed completely or fail completely, so your data is always in a consistent state.
After a successful import, you will be redirected to the COPE page where you can confirm the updated area values.
