What notifications are What notifications are
Notifications are your personal inbox in 21RISK. They tell you when something happens that involves you — a risk improvement you're responsible for gets updated, a report is added, insured values change — so you don't have to go looking for it. A bell in the left sidebar shows how many unread notifications you have, and the Notifications page collects them all in one place, grouped by board.
Notifications are not the activity log. The activity log is the complete, permanent history of everything that happened on a board — useful for audits. Notifications are the friendlier, personal layer on top: just the things worth telling you about, based on what you're involved in and the boards you watch.
Your inbox Your inbox
Open Notifications from the sidebar to see your inbox. Notifications are grouped by board and sorted newest first, and unread ones are highlighted.
- The bell in the sidebar shows your unread count and updates on its own.
- Click any notification to jump straight to the item it's about.
- Use Mark all as read to clear the unread count, or a notification marks itself read when you open it.
Choosing how much you hear: watch levels Choosing how much you hear: watch levels
For each board you pick a watch level that decides what you get notified about. The default is Participating & @mentions , which keeps things quiet until something actually involves you.
| Watch level | What you get |
|---|---|
| Participating & @mentions | (Default) Only items you're involved in — ones you're responsible for, have edited, or have commented on. |
| All activity | Everything that happens on the board. |
| Ignore | Nothing — unless you've chosen to follow a specific item. |
You can change your watch level in two places:
- The Watch button on the board, next to the board's name.
- The board's Settings page, under the Notifications card.
Your watch level is personal — it only affects your own notifications, never anyone else's.
Following a single risk improvement Following a single risk improvement
Sometimes you care about one specific risk improvement even if you don't want everything from its board. Open the risk improvement and use Subscribe to follow just that item. You'll be notified about it from then on — even if your board watch level is set to Ignore .
To stop following it, open the same item and choose Unsubscribe . Muting an item this way wins over everything else, so you won't hear about it again even if you're otherwise participating.
Managing what you watch Managing what you watch
The Watching tab on the Notifications page lists every board you have a watch level on, so you can review and adjust them all from one screen — handy as the number of boards you're involved in grows.
Email, push and real-time Email, push and real-time
You don't have to keep the app open to stay informed:
- Real-time — when something happens, your inbox and the bell update immediately, no refresh needed.
- Email — important notifications are also sent to your email address, with a link straight back to the relevant item.
- Push — get browser notifications on your devices, even when 21RISK is closed. Turn this on per browser under Notifications → Settings , and use Send test to check it's working. On iPhone and iPad, first add 21RISK to your Home Screen (Share → Add to Home Screen) — Apple only allows push for installed web apps.
Email and push can each be turned on or off on the Settings tab of the Notifications page. Email is per organization; push follows the browser you enable it in.
When you enable push, your browser asks for permission once. If nothing happens or the toggle reports that notifications are blocked, your browser has blocked them for 21RISK — allow notifications for this site in your browser's settings (the icon next to the address bar), then flip the toggle again.
If a test push reports delivered but nothing appears on screen, your operating system is hiding the notifications — the browser (or on iPhone/iPad, the 21RISK Home Screen app) must be allowed to show them:
- macOS — System Settings → Notifications → your browser (e.g. Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge) → Allow notifications
- Windows — Settings → System → Notifications → make sure your browser is allowed
- Android — Settings → Apps → your browser → Notifications
- iPhone/iPad — Settings → Notifications → 21RISK
Also make sure Focus / Do Not Disturb is off. On desktop, the browser must be running to receive pushes; phones deliver even with the browser closed. The Not seeing notifications? guide on the Settings tab shows the steps for your exact browser and operating system.
Notifications are rolling out on the Insurance board first — covering risk improvements, engineering reports, and insured values — with more boards to follow.
Newsletter Newsletter
The Settings tab also has a Newsletter card for occasional product updates and news from 21RISK. Unlike the notification channels above, this preference follows your email address across all organizations. Turning it off does the same as the unsubscribe link in the emails themselves, and you can re-subscribe from the same toggle at any time.
