We've added a brand new Effective Access view to every board in 21RISK — giving you a complete, at-a-glance overview of who can access a board, what they can do, and exactly why they have those permissions ✨
The problem
In 21RISK, access to a board can come from multiple sources: direct access, user groups, board ownership, or being a Group Owner. That flexibility is powerful, but it can make it hard to answer a simple question: "Who has access to this board, and why?"
Until now, you had to piece that together manually — checking direct access, then each user group, then board owners. Not ideal when you're preparing for a security review or onboarding a new team member.
How Effective Access works
The new view is available on the Access settings page of every board — both compliance and insurance. You'll find a toggle at the top to switch between the regular access configuration and the Effective Access overview.
The table shows:
- Every user who can access the board, regardless of how they got access
- Permission sources — a list showing whether access comes from direct assignment, a specific user group (like "All Users" or a custom group), board ownership, or Group Owner status
- Individual permissions — each permission column shows whether the user has it, and hovering reveals a tooltip explaining exactly which source(s) grant that specific permission
Why this matters
- Security audits — Quickly verify who has access to sensitive boards and trace every permission back to its source
- Troubleshooting — When a user reports they can or can't do something, immediately see their full permission picture
- Onboarding confidence — After adding a new user, verify they have exactly the right level of access before they start
- Clean-up — Spot users who have broader access than intended, or redundant permission grants from multiple sources
Available everywhere
Effective Access is available on both compliance boards and insurance boards . The permission columns adapt automatically to show the relevant permissions for each board type.
