Introducing our new compliance solution

Can you get excited about a compliance product? We think yes.

I just recorded a walkthrough of our new compliance solution — today it runs alongside the classic experience as "Compliance 2", but it is on track to simply become the compliance board in 21RISK. It solves some of the biggest problems we have seen in years of working with compliance standards together with our customers.

It is built for both sides of compliance work: the people at sites answering questions, and the administrators who own the standard.

One grid: your sites × your standard

The first thing you see is a grid. Each column is a site. Each row is a question. To update an answer for a site, you click it and change it. That's it.

When you need more than the answer, hold Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) and click to open the detailed view: the full change log, notes, a due date, a responsible, cost estimates, and file uploads — everything that belongs to that one question at that one site, in one place.

The hard problem: changing the standard

Here is the issue that hurts most in real compliance work: what happens when the standard itself needs to change?

For small edits, it is as easy as it should be. Spot a spelling mistake in a question? If you have permission to edit the standard, you click the question, fix it, and save. The question's history keeps a full audit log of what changed, when, and by whom.

Big changes are where it gets interesting. Say your question on portable fire extinguishers should now also require a service manual and schedule. You edit the question and mark it as a major change . Three things happen:

  • All existing site answers stay linked to the previous version of the question — no data is lost, and no one can claim compliance against a requirement they never saw.
  • Sites need to re-answer the question to be compliant with the new version .
  • Your change note — for example, "we are updating this requirement because of recent major accidents" — travels with the change and shows up in the activity log of every affected question, so site users see not just what changed but why .

You also decide what the change means for statuses. If the new requirement is critical for your organization, you can set the affected answers to non-compliant in one go — every site immediately sees red where action is needed.

This is the part we are most proud of. Standards are living documents; your compliance tool should treat them that way, without ever losing history.

Views for how you actually work

The grid is the home view, but not the only one:

  • Questions — all questions in a traditional table, with proper filtering on every column, so you can cut the list down to topical questions, general questions, or whatever slice you need.
  • Sites — one row per site with key KPIs, for the portfolio overview.
  • Single site — everything for one site, with the same filters. This includes something we have had feature requests on for a long time: filtering down to exactly the relevant questions. From here you can open any question and see its full audit activity.

Reports are now snapshots

Reports work differently than before — and more honestly. A report is now a snapshot : how did the answers look at a specific point in time?

Creating one is quick: pick the site, record when the visit happened — say an external auditor came on the 17th and finished at 14:30 — note who participated, and save. Opening the report later shows the answers frozen exactly as they were at that moment. Perfect for auditor visits, insurer documentation, and "what did we know when" questions.

Try it

The new compliance board is how you extend your property insurance work in 21RISK with risk management and safety. If you would like to see it on your own standards, get in touch — or if you are already a customer, ask us about switching your boards over.
